PCLS Newsletter 5/14 Recognition Ceremony and Zither Performance

Dear Parents/Guardians:
 
Registration is still open.  Several culture classes are getting filled, including Painting and Drawing, Chinese Knotting, and Yo Yo.  Due to popular demand, Ms. Wenting Chen will be teaching the Abacus class in the fall.  If anyone wants to change their culture class to Abacus, please contact a staff member to make this change.
 
Please remember to bring in your check with the confirmation page to a staff member this Sunday or our last Sunday, 6/4 to complete your registration.  We hope everyone finds this new registration easier and quicker!

PCLS Newsletter 4/30 Parent Presentation Panel and Student Work Exhibition

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Everyone should have received the registration email on Wednesday night.  Although several of you have already enrolled, our records show that some of you did not select culture classes.  If you look at your confirmation, you should see a selection for the culture class.  Please be sure to return to the website, click update and select the culture class for your child(ren).  Please remember to bring in your check with the confirmation page to a staff member this Sunday, 5/7, 5/14 or 6/4 to complete your registration.  We hope everyone finds this new registration easier and quicker!
***DO NOT MISS THE PARENT PRESENTATION*** – this Sunday at 3 PM in the cafeteria.  It will be a short presentation and to follow will be:
Special Panel:  How to survive Chinese school?
Time:     Right after the bi-annual parent meeting
Place:    PDS Cafeteria
Do you have challenges getting your kids to complete their Chinese homework every week?  If so, you are not alone.  Please come join us for a special panel in which parents and students from the CSL and Traditional tracks share tips on how to do their Chinese homework even if the parents do not speak Chinese at home.  Also, we will discuss the benefits of continuing with Chinese school as your child gets older, even with the additional school responsibilities and extracurricular activities.
If you are a parent or student with tips to share, please come join us in the audience for an interactive Q&A session.
Afterwards, please check out the Student Work Exhibition that will be on display on the cafeteria tables.

PCLS Newsletter 4/23 Open House

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Hope everyone had a relaxing and fun Spring Break!

Please be aware that the cafeteria will be closed to us this Sunday.

Please note our upcoming events:

* Culture Open House this Sunday!  Students, accompanied with a parent, can go to another culture class to learn more about it and make a decision for their culture class for 2017-2018.  Please see attached list of culture classes and their locations.
* Next Sunday, April 30th, we will have a Parent Meeting Presentation by the staff.  Please join us at 3 PM in the cafeteria!
* Registration will also begin April 30th.  We are planning to send a unique email to each family so that they can register online and then submit their check in person on April 30th.  Culture class and PTA duties are still filled in order of registration.  More details to come on this year’s registration process.

One culture class that may not be offered next year is Abacus, as we do not have a teacher that can teach it next year.  If anyone is experienced with abacus teaching, please contact the Culture Director, Jennifer at Jennifer@pcls.org.

We will have a new Pop dance class for students of age 11 and above.  This class will combine cardio, Latin movements and Hip Hop.  The teacher picks very popular music that the students will love.  It will be a wonderful way to exercise and experience the versatile style of dance.  The instructor, Lily, has been teaching adult Zumba classes in PCLS for 3 years and has gotten very positive feedback from our parents.

TA applications are open this week, PCLS students and alumni who will be in tenth grade and above are encouraged to apply. PCLS Newsletter 4/9 Essay Contest

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Some of you mentioned that you had some issues with using the internet last Sunday. Princeton Day School advised us that there was some significant “streaming” activity that caused slow or no internet connection. Several teachers use the internet as part of their curriculum so it would be helpful if we could all be mindful of our usage. All that is needed to login to the PDS Guest internet is your email. The security key numbers are not part of the authentication process so they do not need to be remembered for future sign ins.

Please note our upcoming events:
Essay Contest will be held at 1:00 – 2:00 this Sunday. Contest participants please check-in at 12:45 pm in front of room 202, and be sure to bring pencil, eraser, and dictionary.
No school next Sunday, April 16th. Enjoy your spring break!
On April 23rd, we will have a Parent Meeting Presentation by the staff. Please join us at 3 PM!
